Isabella Gardner’s birthday was April 14, 1840, one hundred and seventy years ago! Learn a bit about the museum’s founder tonight and why she created this fantastical and fabulous museum for everyone to enjoy.
- Courtyard Music: from 5:30-7pm and then again from 8:15-9pm.
- Nasturtium Display: Check out the incredible hanging nasturtium vines that our gardeners coax to dramatic lengths hang from the third floor balconies to the courtyard below. This special seasonal display is only on view for two to three weeks each year so catch it now.
- Gallery Game throughout the galleries with prizes
- Viewfinder Conversations: Join a discussion about John S. Sargent’s famous portrait of Isabella Gardner (every half-hour), plus other impromptu gallery discussions (6 to 8:30PM)
- Sketching in the Galleries: Drop by the Titian Room and sketch for a while, from 6-9pm.

And a changing array of “Courtside Bites” (available for just $1) will adequately sustain you to explore the galleries and art activities that await.

The Madame Gautreau cocktail is named for John Singer Sargent’s painting, Madame Gautreau Drinking a Toast (1882-83) – one of Isabella Gardner’s favorites – depicting the ravishing beauty, charm and vitality of Paris socialite Virginie Avegno (“Madame X”). Indulge in this all-new specialty cocktail alongside the court; and then go pay Madame Gautreau herself a visit in the nearby Blue Room gallery!
